Armor For Our Spiritual Battle

The man goes to work each day purposing in his heart that he is going to serve the Lord and make right decisions for his spiritual walk. As soon as he gets to work, he realizes that he is in a spiritual battle. He hears immoral talk from his fellow-workers, and their attitudes are ungodly. The boss man curses because the workers are not doing their jobs. The workers are bragging about the sins that they have committed. Satan attacks with temptation, discouragement, and the desire to quit living the Christian life. Yet, the man remains faithful to God. How is this possible?

Ephesians 6:14-18 reminds the Christian that he has all the resources necessary to win all the spiritual battles. He has the Christian armor that he uses when he is in a battle against the world, the flesh, and the Devil.

•    He wears the belt of truth. The Christian has his life filled with truth. He loves, knows, speaks, and applies the truth to every situation in which he finds himself. Even his Savior is the way, the truth, and the life.

•    He wears the breastplate of righteousness. Righteousness is obeying God. The Christian walks the right path and determines to stay on that path, no matter what may try to distract him off that path. Righteousness is pleasing God.

•    He walks with his feet prepared with the gospel of peace. He is at peace with God, and he desires to share the gospel of peace with others.

•    He uses the shield of faith. Faith is trusting God to the point of committing oneself to Him. The Christian knows that God is in control and is doing what is right. The Christian knows that God will lead him in the right direction and will take care of him.

•    He wears the helmet of salvation. God has given assurance to the Christian that his sins are forgiven and that eternal life is his if he is born again.

•    He wields the sword of the Spirit. God expects all those who are Christians to live in obedience to the Word of God.

•    He prays. Through prayer the Christian is able to live the Christian life successfully. A person cannot succeed in the spiritual life without prayer.
May we remember this week that we have all the resources necessary to win the battles we find ourselves in. May we be determined that with God’s armor and help we will defeat our spiritual enemies. May God receive the glory for each battle won!
