Continuity

When a church goes through a pastoral change, people will sometimes wonder if things are going to change or remain stable and consistent with the past. College Lakes Church is determined to continue to glorify God and to prove a supreme love for the Lord Jesus Christ by taking the same necessary stand that she has taken in the past. God expects His church to stand for righteousness in the midst of a perverse world that not only desires to destroy individuals, but would also like to destroy the church itself.

We desire to maintain the same course in:

• Doctrine. We will continue to stand for the historical doctrines of the faith. God has given us the Scriptures, which are perfect and inspired word for word. God created the world in six twenty-four hour days, and He made man for His pleasure and glory. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and is one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man. Jesus is the Son of God and died for the sins of mankind by shedding His blood on the cross. The resurrection of His physical body from the tomb proves all His claims, and He is coming back the second time physically and imminently. Jesus Christ saves man from sin by giving him a new birth through the Holy Spirit, and man is able to have eternal life through the grace of God. The correct doctrine is the basis for all of the Christian life.

• Music. In a day when secular music has permeated churches so much that people do not know the difference between God’s music and Satan’s music, College Lakes Church will maintain traditional, God-honoring music that moves the mind, emotions, and will to respond to God in adoration, submission, and obedience. On two different occasions, people who were traveling through the Fayetteville area have stopped at other churches, heard the instrumentalists and singers practicing music, and left the church before the service began because of the contemporary music that they heard. The people came to our church, heard the music, and stayed for worship with us because of our stand on good, Godly music that glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. On another occasion, a church member went to another church and was immediately grieved to be exposed to such music at a funeral. We will continue to glorify God through our music ministry.

• Standards. We live in a day of “cheap, easy believism.” All you have to do is to just say that you believe, and you can live any way that you desire to live without having to be concerned over the consequences. The Bible gives us a much different picture of the Christian life. God expects His children to be different from the world and to live as Godly as possible. Our church, day care center, and academy has a stand on Godly living that is well-known. We do not ever want to deviate from our position on standards. The church constitution provides continuity on our positions for modest dress, abstinence from the use of alcohol, and rejection of sensual films and music. We stand for the unity of believers by not being critical of others. We show appreciation for each other.

May College Lakes Church depend upon the grace of God to continue to stand on the righteous principles of God’s Word and depend upon each other as we stand together for the Lord’s glory and honor.
