The Preciousness of Accuracy
Since the movie,
"The Passion of The Christ," was released, many inaccurate statements have
appeared in the media about the crucifiers of The Christ. As I have listened to
the secular and religious discussions, I have not heard a holistic explanation
of the crucifixion. Therefore, in reading the Biblical account, I asked, "Who
was involved in the death of The Christ?"
-
The Jewish religious leaders
clamored for His crucifixion. John 7:1b, "The Jews sought to kill Him."
John 19:6-7, "When the chief priests therefore and officers saw Him, they
cried out, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye
Him, and crucify Him: for I find no fault in Him. The Jews answered him, We
have a law, and by our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of
God." Matthew 26:3-4, "Then assembled together the chief priests, and
the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest,
who was called Caiaphas, 4: And consulted that they might take Jesus by
subtilty, and kill Him." Matthew 26:59, "Now the chief priests, and
elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put Him to
death;" Matthew 27:25, "Then answered all the people, and said, His
blood be on us, and on our children."
-
The Gentile politician, Pilate,
consented to the crucifixion. John 19:15-16, "But they cried out, Away with
Him, away with Him, crucify Him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your
King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. 16: Then
delivered he Him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and
led Him away."
-
The sins of each person led to His
death. Isaiah 53:5-6, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was
bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and
with His stripes we are healed. 6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have
turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of
us all."
-
The Father placed the penalty for
each sin upon The Christ. Isaiah 53:10a, "It pleased the Lord (The
Father) to bruise Him (The Son)." II Corinthians 5:21, "For He (The
Father) hath made Him (The Son) to be sin for us, Who (The Son) knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (The Son)."
-
The Christ voluntarily submitted to
crucifixion and death in order to make salvation available for each person.
John 10:17-18, "Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My
life, that I might take it again. 18: No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it
down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it
again. This commandment have I received of My Father."
Truth is always accurate, balanced, and nonprejudicial. Romans 3:4 summarizes
the sensible response to nonsensical discussions, "Let God be true, but every
man a liar."
A few days after the film was released, a lady asked if I would view the
movie when it becomes available on DVD. My reply was "no" for three reasons.
Hollywood typically distorts Biblical truth and promotes perversion.
Extra–Biblical material mingles fact and fiction in the narrative.
Christ is degraded in the eyes of the viewer because His perfect speech,
perfect actions, perfect temperament, perfect body language, perfect emotions,
and perfect death cannot be accurately portrayed by a sinful, finite person.
Perhaps the most precise analysis and response to the movie, "The Passion of
The Christ," is found in Revelation 22:18-19: "For I testify unto every man that
heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these
things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and
from the things which are written in this book."
