StabilityPsalm 62:6-8, “He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” Several months ago, Marc Greenhalgh risked his life to save his pet dog. The cocker spaniel, whose name is Jasper, had seen a duck and had started chasing the duck across a frozen lake. As Jasper was chasing, he found out the hard way that the middle of the lake was not frozen. During the pursuit, he fell through into the icy waters. Marc realized that the dog would not be able to get out of the icy waters on his own so he went into the ice and water, at one time up to his neck, and rescued the dog. Jasper illustrates to us the lesson that people often think that they are building their lives on things that are stable. People also find out the hard way that nothing in this life is truly stable except the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Jesus Christ provides all the stability that anyone would ever need. Psalm 62:6-8 tells us how Jesus Christ gives us the needed foundation and support that our lives so desperately need. • He is our rock (v. 6). • He is our salvation (v. 6). • He is our defense (v. 6). • He is our glory (v. 7). • He is our strength (v. 7). • He is our refuge (v. 7). Since the Lord Jesus Christ is our everything, and since He gives us stability, how are we to respond? • Do not be moved (v. 6). Depend upon the strength of the Lord Jesus Christ to keep you unmoveable in all the circumstances of life. • Trust in Him at all times (v. 8). God has proven Himself to be faithful and dependable through all that we have ever been through as Christians. • Pour out your heart before Him (v. 8). The Word of God tells us to cast all our burdens on the Lord Jesus Christ because He cares for us. May we be unmoveable as we strive to serve the Lord with all our hearts! |
